Kao I'm living in Gisborne on the East Coast but my heart is still home in Taranaki. Yes please let me know your itinerary, we will stay in touch, I plan to be home often while working on this project and I am also curating an exhibition in Dec for an international snowchange hui happening in Taranaki. I miss home but it allows me objectivity when working on this project as I get too emotionally involved when I'm home lol!!
Dan sounds familar, and I think I remember seeing your work! Was it in the contemporary exhibition at the museum? Dee O'Carroll also sounds familiar. There are a big whanau of O'Carroll's in Taranaki.
Great to hear from you sis and will stay in touch. You can check out my photos from Pagopago on my bebo page! I think you are one of my friends already..I'll post some here soon too..
How are you and your mahi toi going? It has been a while since we have connected ne!
I've just returned from the Pacific arts festival in American Samoa and had an amazing time networking and sharing with many artists. I'm creating an exhibition of indigenous artists from around the world and Hawai'i is one of the whenua that I plan to visit next year. I connected with tangata whenua from Hawai'i while in American Samoa but I remembered also that you are there and you are an artist and share many stories through your art!! The kaupapa of this exhibition is indigenous artists sharing their stories about the effects that loss of land and colonisation has had on their people so giving them a voice to share but also looking for solutions for change. I will be gathering many stories from many lands over the next two years which will come together as digital stories alongside artworks of the artists.
The exhibition will begin in Taranaki Aotearoa in June 2010 and will take its journey from there. It has been quite an organic process but is coming together quite nicely. Let me know if you are interested in this kaupapa and also what you've been up to!
How is the moko going?? Henry said you guys had an awesome wananga at Rerekohu. I'm SO Jealous, it would have been really inspiring!
